Tallest temples and pagodas in Japan
Heights here are mostly of pagodas, the tallest structures most Japanese temples have. The Great Peace Pagoda at Naritasan, 58 m and built in 1984, leads, but the historic record belongs to Nara: the five-storey pagoda of Kofuku-ji at 50.1 m, and the Great Buddha Hall of Todai-ji, 49 m high and, even after its smaller rebuilding of 1709, one of the largest wooden buildings in the world. Kyoto follows with the Yasaka pagoda of Hokan-ji, the Founder's Hall of Higashi Hongan-ji and the pagoda of Ninna-ji.
