UNESCO World Heritage temples in Morocco

All four Moroccan entries stand inside listed medinas rather than being listed on their own. The Koutoubia Mosque, whose 12th-century minaret is the landmark of the Medina of Marrakesh, is the only one with tours. The Medina of Fez holds Al-Qarawiyyin, founded in 857 or 859, and the 17th-century Ibn Danan Synagogue, restored in 1999, and the Ben Youssef Mosque in Essaouira completes the list. Non-Muslims cannot enter Moroccan mosques other than the Hassan II in Casablanca, so the Koutoubia and Al-Qarawiyyin are seen from outside or through an open door.
