Temple tours in Karangasem

Tours to Karangasem in east Bali are long full days, usually two and a half to three hours each way from Ubud or the south coast. The draw is Pura Lempuyang, whose split gate frames Mount Agung, combined with the water gardens of Tirta Gangga and Taman Ujung, or with Pura Besakih, the mother temple on Agung's slopes. Expect to queue, sometimes for hours, for the gate photograph unless you arrive at dawn, and check whether the shuttle up to Lempuyang and a sarong are included.
