Oldest temples in Thailand

Thai temple dates come from chronicles, and what you see today is mostly later restoration. Wat Phra That Doi Kham near Chiang Mai claims 687, long before the Thai kingdoms. Sukhothai, capital from about 1238, and Ayutthaya, founded in 1351, are ruined royal cities. The rest of the list belongs to Chiang Mai, the Lanna capital of King Mangrai: Wat Chiang Man and the forest temple of Wat Umong from his reign, then Wat Suan Dok and Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, whose first stupa is traditionally dated 1383 and which stands at the top of a staircase of about 300 steps.
