Oldest temples in Malaysia

Malaysia's temples are young by Asian standards, because most were built by the Chinese, Indian, Thai and Burmese communities who settled in the trading ports from the 17th century onwards. The oldest, Cheng Hoon Teng in Malacca, dates from about 1645, with its main hall of 1704. Penang follows with the Burmese and Thai temples of 1803 and 1845 that face each other in George Town, and Kek Lok Si above Air Itam. The Murugan shrine at Batu Caves dates from 1891, and the list ends with modern mosques such as the National Mosque and the Putra Mosque.
