Galtaji (Monkey Temple) vs Govind Dev Ji Temple

Two temples in Jaipur. Galtaji (Monkey Temple) has 17 tickets and tours to book; Govind Dev Ji Temple has no online ticket listed. The table and the two notes below put them side by side; the full pages have what to see, the ticket and the timing for each.

Galtaji (Monkey Temple)

Galtaji (Monkey Temple)

Jaipur, India

Entry to Galtaji is free, though a small fee is usually asked for cameras and phones used for photography, and priests and self-appointed guides may ask for donations at the shrines. The site sits in a gorge in the hills about 10 km east of central Jaipur, and the easiest way to get there independently is by auto-rickshaw or taxi, which can wait while you visit. You can also walk over the ridge from the Jaipur side via the Sun Temple, a climb of about half an hour. Almost all the tours that include Galtaji are city tours of Jaipur in which the temple is one stop.

Govind Dev Ji Temple

Govind Dev Ji Temple

Jaipur, India

There is no ticket to buy for the Govind Dev Ji Temple and nothing is sold online for it: this is a busy working temple and entry is free for everyone, Hindu or not. You leave your shoes at the deposit counters near the entrance, for a small tip, and join the crowd moving towards the shrine. Donations are welcome but never required, and flower and sweet offerings are sold by stalls outside if you wish to make one. Most visitors reach it on foot from the City Palace, since the temple lies within the palace grounds on the north side, in the old Jai Niwas garden, a few minutes' walk from the palace museum and Jantar Mantar.
