Philae, the island temple of Isis, is about 7 km south of Aswan and reached by a short motorboat ride from the Shellal landing; agree the boat fare before you set off. Kalabsha, moved to an island near the High Dam, is visited the same way and is far quieter. Kom Ombo, on a bend of the Nile about 40 km north, and Edfu, about 100 km, are usually seen on a Nile cruise towards Luxor or on a road trip with an early start.
