Kalasasaya, Tiwanaku

Kalasasaya, Tiwanaku

Tiwanaku, Bolivia

There is no ticket for the Kalasasaya alone. It is one of the main monuments of Tiwanaku, and a single site ticket, bought at the office by the museums, covers it together with the Akapana pyramid, the Semi-Subterranean Temple, the Puma Punku platform a short walk away and the two site museums. Foreign visitors pay a higher rate than Bolivians; tickets are paid in cash in bolivianos. Tiwanaku lies about 70 km west of La Paz, on the high plain towards Lake Titicaca, and almost everyone arrives on a day trip. Pilko Kaina, Isla del Sol - location map

Pilko Kaina, Isla del Sol

Copacabana, Bolivia

Pilko Kaina is an Inca building on the southern tip of the Isla del Sol, the Island of the Sun, in the Bolivian part of Lake Titicaca. No ticket for the ruin alone is sold online. The local community charges a small fee in bolivianos at the site or on the path leading to it, so carry cash in small notes, as there are no card machines on the island. Almost everyone gets there by boat from Copacabana. Public launches leave the town's waterfront each morning for the island, landing at Yumani in the south and, when the paths are open, at Challapampa in the north; the crossing takes around one and a half to two hours.
