Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi Mosque vs Nabi Daniel Mosque
Two temples in Alexandria. Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi Mosque has no online ticket listed; Nabi Daniel Mosque has no online ticket listed. The table and the two notes below put them side by side; the full pages have what to see, the ticket and the timing for each.
There is no ticket for the Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi Mosque and none is sold online. It is a working mosque and Sufi shrine, entry is free, and visitors who are dressed modestly may usually step inside outside the five daily prayers. A small tip to the attendant who looks after shoes at the door, or to anyone who shows you around, is customary.
Most foreign visitors see the mosque on a day in Alexandria, either on their own or with a private guide and driver. Day trips from Cairo run along the desert road to the coast and typically combine the Catacombs of Kom el-Shoqafa, Pompey's Pillar, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and the Citadel of Qaitbay;
No ticket for the Nabi Daniel Mosque is sold online, and none is required. It is a working neighbourhood mosque in central Alexandria, and visitors who come outside prayer times can usually step into the courtyard and prayer hall without paying. A caretaker may offer to show you around or open the door to the tomb chamber, and a small tip is customary if he does; the underground crypt itself is often closed to visitors.
The mosque stands on Nabi Daniel Street, one of the old north-south axes of the city, a short walk south of Raml Station and the Corniche.
